 What is your favorite newspaper front page? Why?
The Buffalo News was my favorite.
The stories were interesting and it didn't have too many pictures.

What is your favorite headline from that newspaper? Why are you interested in it?
Employers use FaceBook for screening job applicants. I think it's interesting that the people who are interviewing you are asking for your Fascebook information rather than asking normal interview questions.

How many stories are on the front page of your favorite?
4 but they are all continued on another page.

What do you  notice that all newspaper front pages have in common?
Most of them have the same design, and almost all of them have one big picture in the middle.

What are things that vary on the front pages of different newspapers? 
Some have more pictures than the others or they have more stories with less pictures, and some look more like magazines rather than newspapers.

Cover Types

1.Early Magazine Covers

• Almost always paintings.
• High morals.

2.The Poster Cover

• One big picture, no border.
• The subject is very clear.
• The text does not distract from the subject.
• The picture has to be really good photo or a really recognizable thing.

Disadvantages:
Zero entry points. 
It's a risk to do this kind of cover.

Advantages:

#1 Rolling Stone (January 22, 1981)
Rolling Stones cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono was named the top magazine cover to appear since 1965. The image was photographed by renowned celebrity portraitist Annie Leibovitz mere hours before Lennon was shot on December 8, 1980. The photo was eventually used on the cover of Rolling Stones tribute issue to Lennon on January 22, 1981.

I chose this cover because it looks interesting and it caught my attention. The picture is kinda blurry but it's still an amazing picture. John Lennon and Yoko Ono look perfect together in this picture. They match each other.   

5 things I should be thinking about when I design my magazine cover.

1. Familiar recognition from issue to issue
2. If it is invisible like wallpaper, decide what element is worthy of becoming dominant
3. If the cover pops out from its background, don’t weaken it by fussing with it.
4. Arousing curiosity
5. Intellectually stimulating, interesting

Portrait and self-portrait tips and ideas

1.Get Closer
The most common mistake made by photographers is that they are not physically close enough to their subjects. In some cases this means that the center of interest—the subject—is just a speck, too small to have any impact. Even when it is big enough to be decipherable, it usually carries little meaning. Viewers can sense when a subject is small because it was supposed to be and when it's small because the photographer was too shy to get close.
Don't be shy. If you approach people in the right way, they'll usually be happy to have their picture made. It's up to you to break the ice and get them to cooperate. Joke around with them. Tell them why you want to make the picture. Practice with people you know so that you are comfortable; people can sense when you aren't.


2.Think about your motivation and emotions: Blankly staring at the camera rarely gets good results. Be silly, don’t be afraid to over-act. The worst that can happen is that you fill up your memory card with useless photos; but you might also find yourself with a proper gold-nugget of a self portrait.

I plan on taking portraits instead of self-portraits. I will take pictures of random people around the school and my partner. I'll probably take photos outside or somewhere in the building. I will try my best to make the shots successful by making sure the lighting is right and there focused.

This picture was one of my favorites because of how the sky and the stars look.

This picture was also one of my favorites because Lady GaGa is one of my favorite people and I like how she wore this outfit to show that animal cruelty is wrong and it doesn't look attractive when you see what your really wearing.

                   I love this picture and how the lightning leads your eyes to the different colors of the buildings.

 Stereo love- Edward Maya

I chose this song because it's amazing and it never gets overwhelming. The beats go well with the singing and they mix well with together. I never get tired of listening to it and it reminds me of my girlfriend :3


2. What was the best movie of 2010?
Scott Pilgrim vs. The world-
This movie was very creative. A lot of movies are usually all the same, they a involve love, drama, fighting, and killing. This movie combined all these things but made it more like a game and put the killings in a more PG way.

3. What was the most important news story of the year?Washington DC legalizes gay marriage.-
It's good to know that some states are seeing that gays need there rights as well. The gays don't try to make our rights first priority to the government but they appreciate when it happens. All they want is it to be able to marry the person they love and want to share their life with the same way straight are allowed to do.

4.Who was the most important person of 2010? Lady GaGa-
Lady GaGa a very big part in the gay community, and stands up for equal rights. She's not afraid to voice her opinion and say why things should change.She's also an amazing performer and takes those risks that other artists would be too scared to try.  

5. What was the biggest sports OR entertainment, story OR person of 2010.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills-
This show is one of my favorites, it has a lot of drama and is very entertaining. The women in this show are very independent and all have strong personalities and they seem to clash at times. They are wealthy and all have amazing lives that I enjoy watching. 

1. Tell me what is the one thing that happened on your holiday that you will remember?
I will remember seeing my girlfriend all last week. :3



2. What are your resolutions for the 2011 year?
I want to come out to my mom, lose 20 lbs, watch a movie with my girlfriend, and have my girlfriend spend time with my dads family.








3. What are you looking forward to in 2011?
I will be looking forward to meeting new people, seeing Lady GaGa in concert, changing my style, hanging out with my girlfriend, getting my license, and spending time with my family in North Carolina.

Abandoned Theme Parks

1. Tell me which amusement park featured in the two articles that you would like to visit and take your camera along and what about that park made you want to go there. Write at least a paragraph.

I would want to visit Six Flags in New Orleans, and take pictures there. It seems risky & I prefer challenges.
It also looks really interesting and it would be really cool to take pictures of this amusement park.

2. Post one photo from that park. You may use the photos from the link, or you can google an entirely new photo. I would prefer to see a photo of the park in disrepair and not a photo of it when it was still operating.

3. Think of at least FIVE other unusual places you think would be of interest to photographers. List them.

 4. Use Google or another search engine to research ONE of your five places and see if anyone has already started documenting that place. If you find that someone has already started - post at least one photo of their work.

5. Write a paragraph about why you think that it would be fun to document that location. Tell me what interests you about that place and what kind of photos you could expect to take there.

Rare species are found there,  and the trees have a really interesting shape. The weather also looks really relaxing, and the trees create a lot of shade. I would also love to study how the trees survive.

6. Tell me what it would take for you to go and take photos at your location. What would you need as far as equipment goes, travel plans, expenses you might encounter and what laws you would have to take into consideration to take photos at your spot.

 I would take summer clothes (shorts, shot sleeve shirts, etc). I would also take a camera, a tent, and something to keep me cool.

I think in order for you to have a good picture you have to have the right amount of light and a good camera. You should have a subject in the picture so it doesn't look like a random photo, and things around the subject that don't take attention away from it.


In my next frames I want to do self-portraits. I want to show more of my face than anything else.

Evolution

1. List the changes that were made to the model's face in the computer. (Look carefully)
Her lips, eyes, neck, eyebrows, hair, nose, skin tone, and shoulders. 


2. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like this in a photo? Why or why not?
I don't think it is. It  changes them to the point where they don't look like the same person and nobody really looks like that. It makes people believe that they can really look like that.

3. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation?
It was more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation.

4. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?
Brightening the picture up, and adding a little more style to the hair is okay. Changing the entire face, and adding length isn't okay.

5. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.
Fashion photography involves nothing but photoshop that changes the picture completely and  makes people look fake. Photojournalism shows more realistic things.

6. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect the ethical practice of each?
Photojournalism shows more real things while fashion photography shows more fake than anything.

Photo Manipulation and ethics

A. Summarize the main points of the story in 1-4 sentences.It's mainly about faking pictures, and making them look like there was something else in the picture than what there really was. It's also about duplicating things in the pictures.

B. Explain why you think this type of photo editing is unethical or acceptable.
I think it's unethical because it makes it look like the one who edited the picture is trying to hide something or that they're too afraid to put it out in public. I think the government does this kind of editing.  


This photo was the most unethical b/c it's fake and it never really happened. It shows that the people who run the stories are really desperate for a story and will fake a story just so people will look at it.

 

This photo isn't as bad as the others b/c not a lot was changed or faked. 

Negatives Evaluation

1. From looking at your negatives, how many of your photos do you think turned out well?

 I think four of them came out okay.

2. How many of your photos appear like they will not turn out well? Why do you think these photos did not turn out (Ex: Over/under exposed, not focused, bad composition)?

I don't think three of them will come out good, they are all over exposed.

3. Select the negative image that you think will turn out the best when it is printed. Why do you think this photo will turn out well?

I think it will come out the best printed because the angle I took the picture from got everything that I was trying to get in the picture and it looked really nice.

4. What technical aspects of photography (focus, exposure, composition) do you think are present in your best negative? What evidence can you provide from the appearance of the negative to support your answer?

Focus and exposure, some were blurry and the others didn't have enough exposure. The pictures look brighter than they should be.

5. What advanced composition techniques (Ex: rule of thirds, leading lines) that you have learned in class are present in your favorite negative?
 Rule of thirds and balance.

Stop Bath, Acetic Acid, Citric Acid, Water, Fixer, and Silver Halide. You can but the chemicals here in the USA at WYNIT Inc

Steps: 

Go in the darkroom and remove the film from the cassette, unwind the film an remove the end of the film from the spool. Next load the film into a plastic or metal film reel then place the loaded reel in the film tank ad cover it as directed. Then its time to process the film so you lay the chemicals out in front of you. You need to make sure that the temperature of the chemicals are good, or controlled. This because if you get it to high or to high it will mess up the picture then pour our developer into the open part of the sealed film tank, known as the pour spout, and cover it. Still keeping the lid closed. Next turn the container upside down and hit the side to get any air that's not wanted out of there. Pour running water into the pour spout for one minute to stop development.The its time to fix the image so make sure you put the hardness on it so the picture wont get scratched.Remove the tank cover completely and let the film sit in cold running water for five minutes. Next remove all aces of fixer to avoid white stains on a picture. Pour in a tankful of Hypo Eliminator and agitate for two minutes.Wash for 5 minutes! Remove film from the tank and don't touch it at all. In 1 or 2 hours the film will be dry and you will cut the film into 6 negative films( be sure to cut space between them). For the end you store the negatives in clear envelopes.

2) Agitation- The act or process of agitating; state of being agitated.

3) Enlarger- An apparatus used for making projection prints, having a head for holding, illuminating, and projecting a film negative and a bed for holding a sheet of sensitized printing paper.

4) Developer-  a reducing agent or solution for developing a film or the like.

5)  Stop Bath- An acid bath or rinse for stopping the action of a developer before fixing a negative or print.

6) Fixer-a chemical substance, as sodium sulfate, used to promote fixation.
